AP Inks 500 Papers to Marketplace

The Associated Press announced more than 500 newspapers are now part of its AP Member Marketplace -- an online exchange where members can look for and share stories, photos, and graphics -- since its launch in April.
Several newspapers in Florida, for example, are using Marketplace to swap stories with a local and regional focus. However, newspapers can also use it to create new content, like special sections.
David Dunn-Rankin, publisher of the Sun Herald in Charlotte Harbor, Fla., said in a statement the marketplace "rocks." His paper runs "Florida Report" daily. It's a "big hit with our readers and would not be possible without the AP Marketplace," he said.
The AP revealed that 53 papers are part of the exchange in Ohio, 45 in Pennsylvania, and 26 in Texas.
Said John Nelson, executive editor of The Advocate-Messenger in Danville, Ky., "It give us more ready access to stories that might interest our readers but not typically move across the wire."
